I've had landies since the late 90's and I feel it's time for a change of hobby. I've got other things going on and I don't seem to have time to spare to fettle with and to drive it. Bought a Freelander but couldn't resist just one more series. If I still had access to the family shed I would mothball it in the dry, and fettle with it at my leisure, but I haven't.

I've done quite a bit to it but due to a couple of operations I've barely covered any miles in it. I bought it in Sept'14 as a semi non runner. Since then it's spent most of it's time pootling around the local area (no off-roading as I'm just not into it) and in the family shed being fiddled with by me and my mates. We had a group of us that used to meet up to fettle, kick tyres and talk rubbish. So we've all moved-on and are doing different things.

Right, what have I done to it? In no particular order (and I've probably missed stuff).... I had a local landy expert fit a replacement Rover 3500cc V8 using the existing clutch and 4 speed box (you can fit a fifth gear/overdrive if you wish), I've given it a fresh coat of Deep Bronze Green synthetic coach enamel paint, put new door-tops on it, replaced vent seals, put new chequer plate in the tub & on the arches and on the wings, refurbished bonnet fittings etc, bolted an ammo box in the back, fitted a new Kenlowe temp sender, new fuel pump, new battery (13/4/16) as old one died due to lack of use, horn, brake master cylinder & brake pipe, replaced a wiper arm adaptor, some new indicator lenses, waterproofed the canvas, repainted the interior i left the tub area as i like the age related blue and bare ally peeking through. I know, i'm strange. But i'll include the tin of paint in the sale so you can suit yourself ;. I gave it new track rod ends. Also i've got replacement spark plugs, ball joints & handbrake shoes that i'll throw in. And loads of landy related stuff ie high-lift jack, snatch-strap (to tow people out of the snow ;-) spare carbs, jerry cans, sill panels painted in Deep Bronze Green, 4 wheels have been repainted and 1 is new, the tyres have got plenty of tread. The previous owner fitted diff-guards, a Zeus disc brake kit to the front wheels and fitted a Cobra alarm/immobiliser (I removed it but have all of the bits in the shed, if you know someone who'll refit it). He also fitted a Bulkhead Removal Bar kit to give more access to the tub. It also has a cool marine battery cut-off/kill switch. It is fitted with inertia-reel seat belts but they can be removed if you wish as landies of this era didn't have them fitted when new so you don't have to have them. The first pics are recent, inside and out.

The long distance shot of the truck in the car park with the canvas rolled up was taken before we resprayed it and fitted the new chequerplate. It's a lovely truck.

The V8 sounds really throaty and turns heads. It gets admiring looks and gets people talking whenever I take it out. So what's not perfect? Strewth, it was built in 1959, what do you expect? Seriously, it's a good runner, always starts and stops in a straight line.

The engine is running rich and could do with the carbs balancingI happen to have a spare set so you can fit any combination that you like! Plus the timing needs checking etc. I got as far as ordering new plugs and a replacement narrow-ended plug socket as mine disappeared but then I ran out of enthusiasm.

So I'll throw the plugs and socket in too! So, there you have it. They ain't building any more of these and prices are only going to go up. Pre 1960 examples are getting rarer and rarer. It's great not to have to bother with the hassle of MOT's.

Feel free to come and see it, I'll take you for a trip round the block. Bring a magnet if you want to check the chassis. But no jabbing it with sharp pointy things as a dozen people doing that won't do it any good at all. And, no, I won't MOT it.

That's the whole point! It's been running since March 1959, that's 57 years, now over to you... The item "1959 Series 2 swb land rover V8 MOT exempt and Tax exempt" is in sale since Thursday, May 19, 2016.
