Please make sure you read the whole description, thank you. Overview : This is not a truck for the rivet counters: KVL993V started as a 1979 Series 3 SWB hard-top fitted with windows. She had a 2.25 petrol with 4-speed and Fairey overdrive. Chassis needed lots of work at rear and rear springs were not good.

My Uncles friend was building a'Bowler' style truck with a rolling 90 chassis sporting a Defender rear axle and. Front axle, giving coil suspension all round and 4-pot discs instead of shoes. Frogs Island 4x4 put the two lots together over several months of trial and error.

The chassis was reduced in the middle and lengthened at the rear to take the series 88 body. The battery re-positioned under passenger seat to make room for Range Rover power steering using a 110 steering column with modifications to the inner wing.

KVL's engine was swapped out for a 2.5 petrol ex police (bored out 2.25) with unleaded conversion. The accelerator pedal swopped for 90 to take cable.

Roof lights fitted from an old Discovery. Swing-away rear wheel carrier fitted which has been extended to lock over door, the spare locks to the carrier. Rear door is replaced with the 3-hinge later type. Radio fitted in home-made overhead fitment although I have now disconnected the live feed to it. I have always insured her with Footman James with full disclosure of modifications.

So, she rides high, looks terriffic and handles very well! Condition : The last MOT was January 17 - usual advisory of a weep from a ball joint and the UJ is slightly worn - you can see all the MOT history on thw DVLA website. The footwells are ok but beginning to show their age, some tin worm creeping in and the flat sides where they meet the bulkhead are going - all relatively simple and standard old LR stuff. Bulkhead is generally very good having had a new A pillar last year and the other side patching up at the same time. Chassis is generally very good, it was waxoyled last year by the local LR specialist (Newbury 4x4).

Some outriggers will need attention in the coming years. The exhaust was completely replaced last year. Tyres are all ok Clutch master and slave cylinders replaced earlier this year and clutch flushed through. Serviced every year Tub, bonnet and wings all in original paint. Lid and back door recently hand roller painted.

New complete drivers door top There is a bit of smoke on start up but she sounds and runs beautifully. Detent spring lost so until you are familiar with the gearbox, its easy to try reverse instead of first! Mileage shows about 35k but as she is a BITSA, its impossible to really quote a mileage - I have probably done less than 500 miles in 5 years and my Uncle used her infrequently.

Overall KVL is a fabulous truck with loads of patina and character. She is a hugely able vehicle with alot of modern goodies sitting very nicely into a classic look. The overdrive makes her a gift to drive - even Victor Meldrew would be beaming at the end of a drive. If Im honest, I would suggest the ideal owner will know about older Land Rovers or have a friend that does but that applies to any old car. I have been as brutally honest as I think possible, much more so than most listing.

Dont expect a Nissan - this is a true Landy. You are hugely welcome, encouraged even, to come and view.
