A superb 1963 Land Rover Series IIa 88in soft top with V8 power+drives 1st class

  

Please note: viewings strictly by prior appointment only. Purists and originality buffs should look away now, but Motodrome are pleased to offer this 1963 example of a Series 2a Land Rover 88in softtop finished in Bronze Green with a brand new Exmoor Trim hood.

Instead of the original 2.2 petrol engine, around 1990 this one was professionally fitted with a Rover V8 3500cc motor with kenlowe fan, K&N filters, and electronic ignition. Also fitted with a pair of Range Rover diffs to give much more long-legged gearing, a matching set of 4 BFG trac edge 215/65R16 tyres on black modular rims, extra cooling vents in the bonnet, front and rear light guards, auxiliary front lights, and towballs front and rear. Internally its fitted with later Series 3 county cloth seats with headrests (on the original mounts) and some extra dials to monitor the V8. Its only had 2 owners in the past 20 years, and the last owner (since 2005) treated it to a substantial rebuild in 2011 including a new rear half- chassis.

It comes with a big folder of bills back to the very early 1990s, and old MOTs back to 1976. The V5 has been amended to show the engine change. The Rover V8 is superbly set up, and sounds fantastic.

Its full of character and on test it performed without apparent fault. Its my current favourite of all our stock. Seemingly well-resprayed some years ago and quite well done, it looks rather smart but not so good that you'd be frightened of using it - the paint has picked up a good level of patina with a few bit's rouched-in, some chips and area of paint loss etc. All I can criticise is a crack in the paint in the NSF wing, somepaint loss to the NS door, and the OS A post and both back sections of the modesty covers have been touched-in with a slightly lighter shade of bronze green. The hood is brand new and hence perfect.

Starts on the button hot or cold and it performs absolutely superbly with a fantastic exhaust note, good gearbox, steering, brakes and good ride quality.

No signs of misfiring, hesitancy or overheating etc, with no untoward noises or dramas (save for the rattly spare wheel mount in the video which we'll rectify) Just gets on with it.
