When I bought this and took it to the chap who does all my maintenance and repairs he said it is one of the best he's ever seen. Everyone else seems to agree. It's also been to a couple of Shows where it attracted a lot of attention. The first question will be why I want to sell it and I'm afraid that is easy to answer.

This is the heavy duty, 3/4 ton "Combat" model with raised suspension to give it more ground clearance. It was designed for fit young men and I have just turned 80. That, plus the heavy steering and a trapped nerve in my left shoulder have made it all just too much work for me.

I love the old truck but it's now painful for me to drive and I don't want to do any modifications which might spoil its originality. Everything works, including the convoy lights - though I've never checked the wee light that shines on the rear diff to guide following vehicles on secret missions.

Fairey freewheel hubs have been fitted. The high and low boxes work perfectly, as does 4wd in high range.

The tools are in place behind the seats; jack, wheel brace etc. The original NATO towing hitch is still there and I added a drop plate and 50mm tow ball.

I also have a spare NATO trailer hitch, to fit the one on the vehicle, which can stay with it. The steering is tight and true with no slack and the brakes are excellent. I've only done a couple of thousand miles a year but have her serviced every six months anyway.

Due for MOT in March but I'll get that done before sale, if necessary. The only flaw, I think, is the paintwork on the front wings and leading edge of the bonnet. No idea what has caused that but it may be that whoever painted it last time ran out of enthusiasm by the time he got to those bits. The rest of the paintwork is fine and the original military paint can be seen in some places inside and under the bonnet. It's not in the photo but I've put the spare wheel in the back in an attempt to lighten the steering but then fitted a 13,500lbs winch to the front bumper, which probably takes us back to square one.

The winch has never been used - real life can creep up on you suddenly when you reach the age of 80 - and is fitted with a Dyneema rope. I'm sure there will be questions so please feel free, and if you need photos of any other bits, please ask.

If we get some decent weather I'll take some more, anyway. The item "Ex-Army Land Rover Series III 109" is in sale since Monday, January 11, 2021. This item is in the category "Cars, Motorcycles & Vehicles\Classic Cars\Land Rover". The seller is "hoveto" and is located in Rhosymedre.
