Here we have my 1953 80 that I was hoping to keep for a very long time but life has other plans! The condition of this 80 is waaaay above average. Because if its` condition I would say at some point in the last decade it has been subject to a full high end restoration although I have no evidence of this.

The chassis is painted bronze green as can be seen from the rear crossmember, but underneath has been black waxoiled to keep it in solid condition. Myself and my Father (who has been a Landrover mechanic for 40 years) can see no welding anywhere on the chassis and the chassis number is present and correct on the engine mount.

It has to be the straightest 80 I have ever seen, there is literally only 1 dent on it! This is on the driver`s side wing as can be seen in picture 6. The wings are uncut and some nice features are that it has the factory extra (at the time it was built) Lucas trafficators, as can be seen working again in picture 6. As well as this it has 7 seats and the optional extra agricultural bar is also fitted to the rear crossmember below the tow hitch. It drives nice and tight and behaves as it should on the road.

Last year it has had. Brand new exmoor trim hood fitted. New stainless steel fuel tank, repainted in black. Yes it is fitted with a 1.6 engine and not the 2 litre it should have for this year. The 1.6 engine alone is worth more than that so could be worth doing swap.

As is so common with these types of vehicle the original registration number has been removed as in days gone by the registration number would have been worth more than the vehicle. This means the one currently fitted is non transferable but the good news is I have found the original number the vehicle was issued with when built on a numberplate website for sale for 2,5k.

I have a Heritage certificate with it confriming the original registration number. The final point to mention is that for some reason it has a set of military split rim wheels fitted.

Although not seen in the picture I do have the spare which is off being sandblasted and repainted this week so will be back correctly bolted in the rear tub for the new owner. This has a matching 205 tyre (behaves so much better on the road with the 205s).

Although I have never polished it the paint is shiny and would come back like new with a T cut, I prefer them with a bit of patina so left as is. Fairly easily, although it would still look much the same as it does now.
