Land Rover Series 1, Tax and MOT exempt, 1956, petrol, 109'', 1 former owner

  

We are moving abroad and this is the only reason this magnificent Series 1 is for sale, (UK car - Not to be confused with the Australian rubbish). NO OFFERS OR PART EXCHANGES PLEASE.

Recent new Wax-oil and 2k baked enamelled wheels. The Series 1 has the original 2.0 spread bore petrol engine fitted, which has undergone extensive reconditioning work. After many hours of work and parts she now runs great. Starts straight up, no smoke, and runs incredibly smoothly with good power for an early engine. A new full exhaust, battery, fuel pump, ignition system & many other various parts have also been fitted.

This series 1 has a fantastic chassis, very solid, and you will find no holes or bad areas of corrosion. The chassis has had various areas re-plated over its 62 years on the planet; however, these are nice and tidy.

Brakes all work and the master cylinder removed and resealed. Clutch all works as it should, only a slight noise now and again on clutch operation due to the clutch release bearing, common on the Series 1.

Bodywork as you can see in the pictures is great! Has loads of character and personally I believe it would be a shame to re-paint the whole Land Rover, It has loads of charm and looks the part! Bulkhead is sound, has had repairs to the footwell areas a few years ago and this was all done in stainless steel to last longer, doors are solid and no cracks in the windscreen. Having been in the same family from new and has only 1 previous owner registered on the Log Book.

Log Book currently has a diesel engine recorded; this was a BMC engine that was fitted in the Landy many years ago. Luckily the original Petrol engine with serial no:170615626 (I have checked this in the Land Rover workshop manual and matches the production dates etc) was kept safe and this engine has been re fitted this into the Series 1 after recondition works. The Chassis number: 121601032 tallies up as 1956 109 RHD Home Market vehicle. This is a great Land Rover for someone who wants to have something to play with, or do some restoration work to and turn this into a showstopper.

This was my original idea and as said we are moving to France, so time is not on my side. However, this Series 1 could be smartened up further or left exactly how it is with loads of character and patina. The gearbox and axles are all good, gearbox is nice and tight, Hi-Low box engages and disengages as it should do and has the added benefit of freewheeling hubs on the front axle and a Sailsbury rear axle. I have both the blue and red LOG books present.
