John Brown 4x4 Ltd of Thirsk, supplier of quality, vintage Land Rovers® to customers Worldwide, is delighted to present, on behalf of a third party, this very rare and superb CUTHBERTSON Land Rover®. The Cuthbertson conversion was carried out in 1958, and from there it has had an interesting history and has travelled around The World at various points, prior to returning to The UK in 2016.

This is a matching numbers vehicle - chassis No 151900157 engine No 151901372. Both numbers are present on the vehicle where they should be.

We are assuming that the ultra low mileage of 3982 to be correct, as who would do 100,000 road miles in a vehicle like this? As you would imagine, mechanically it sounds and drives really well. Actually, the Cuthbertson factory still functions, and they hold records of it from 1958!

That said, you could and can drive this on the road, it being road registered and road legal - in fact it is currently taxed too. We are sure that the photos speak for themselves, and if you are reading this you will not need to be reminded of either the condition or the rarity. It was beautifully restored in the past with a fantastic paint job to finish that still looks great today. The vehicle is in full working order and on the button. It drives quite well, and is of course, great fun and a head turner, probably most suited to trundling around a grassy show field at a vintage meet, or being used on an estate.

This is a must have vehicle to complete an discerning collection - it has actually been reserved twice in the past, but for individual private reasons (not any problem with the vehicle) the sales have not completed. The question is always going to be What is this vehicle worth? Unlike an early Series 1, you are not going to find another one of these any time soon. We believe this to be the best one around, and only know of one other in the public forum in the UK, currently residing at Beaulieu Motor Museum which we are told does not run.

We are sure that there will be one or two tucked away somewhere that we do not know about in The World, but we do know not many were built at all, and recorded survivors are scant indeed. We have the magazine article for this, included in the sale.

We will be setting a fair reserve on this, that WE WILL NOT DISCLOSE. We have been instructed not to sell below this reserve, as it will be retained within the private collection should its minimum value not be met. If you have been following this vehicle and wonder at the plate change, this was a forced move from the "wise" DVLA, who refused to return the plate to it on return from overseas, despite it having worn it for many many years. As can be seen from the photos, the restoration was nicely done in times past, with the resulting vehicle not just being rare, but also very sweet to look at from any distance or angle - even under the bonnet and the chassis are clean, painted, polished and detailed. As the company overseeing this sale, we can however, inform you that we do not know or have found any problems or issues with this truck.

It is, in our opinion, an extremely rare opportunity to own a piece of Land Rover® history, and with 6 figure asking prices of early Series 1s, we would imagine this truck will command a good price to find its way into a special collection. Any early offers made will be passed to the owner by us for consideration, but please do not ask what the owner will take. These questions will not be replied to.

In summary, this is, in our opinion, an opportunity to own an immensely rare and beautifully restored Land Rover®, matching numbers, which should prove to be fun to own, in running condition, and a sound investment. Viewings can be arranged between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Fridays only. There is no weekend viewing available and collection must also be between these times.
