Land Rover Series 2 88 short wheel base 1959 Tax and MOT Exempt, good condition

  
Manufactured and first registered in June 1959, its an 88 short wheel base. Painted in green, with lime stone wheels and kaki hood.

It has freewheeling front hubs and an overdrive. The V5C is in my name and all the information is correct to the vehicle. Everything works as it should. We have never used the vehicle off road, only for evenings and weekends out and as a general big toy.

During the recent nice weather, it has been used daily for a 26 mile round trip commute without any issues. The vehicle has never let us down or left us stranded. Its for sale to make way for a replacement toy! During our ownership we have always maintained the vehicle to a high standard. Within the last eight weeks it has had a brand new clutch, clutch pressure plate and thrust bearing fitted, (we have pictures) it has also benefited from having a brand new canvas, supplied by Undercover Covers, both engine mounts have been replaced with new, new rear prop, new rear mud flaps, rear door chains and reflectors, all of the flow and return fuel pipes have been replaced with new, plus new return fittings at both the tank and carb ends, with a new fuel regulator and filter. The Landy benefits from Rockey Mountain Parabolic springs and dampers. All four road tyres are 750x16 M/T and have recently been replaced.

All carry 10mm of tread. We have a receipt for all monies spent to come with it. The chassis has had some repairs but is in excellent condition, the rear cross member has been replaced, the bulkhead and front radiator panel are both rust free and are in excellent condition. During our ownership the vehicle has always been garaged. We have never done any work on the vehicles body except change both window tops with very good condition replacements.

The body work obviously has some dings and small dents and at some point has been roller painted by hand. The paintwork is in our opinion good but its not to spray paint quality finish, however we feel that it suits the truck well due to its age. We have colour matched the paintwork and have bought a tin of the paint for the window tops and this will come with the vehicle for the new owner to do as they please.

The only reason we havent painted them is because we just wanted to get on and use it during the good weather. Some of the vehicles panels have been replaced during its lifetime by previous owners. The motor starts first time every time and there are no nasty noises or smoking.

Motor has been replaced prior to our ownership with a 3.5 Rover V8 petrol, in June we have had a SU carburettor specialist replace some internal seals of both carbs and they have both had a service, with new jets and needles fitted before being tuned up. Engine runs and pulls superbly. Vehicle has a Steve Parker exhaust system fitted, designed for the V8. It has also just had a replacement oil pressure switch fitted. As soon as the motor starts, the light goes straight out. Gearbox is from a series 3, four speed. No jumping out or gear or wining, all the four-wheel drive works as it should as does the overdrive. Overdrive is quiet and allows the motor to relax back nicely. 70mph comes up no problems on the motorway. We have replaced the front three seats with good quality second hand ones, no rips or tears. Two speed heater thats nice and toasty. This is a 57-year-old vehicle, its not a Defender nor does it drive like one.

It will however place a grin on your face like Garfield the cat every time you drive it. It will allow you to develop new friends as everybody wants to talk to you about it, drives great, looks great, sounds fantastic. Very small Oil drips from the gearbox and overdrive sump plugs as they all do, when it rains really hard, wipers are an interesting event to behold in true Land Rover fashion. To make way for a new toy is the only reason for the sale. We would encourage viewing so that your satisfied with the vehicle, and were happy for you to bring your Landy expert along.
