Land Rover Series IIA 88 2.25D. 1964 model on new galvanised chassis. Original, 2.25L 4cyl 3 main bearing Diesel engine coupled to a 4spd manual transmission with fairey overdrive. LWB steel wheels with 7.50x16 radial Avon Rangemaster all-terrain tyres. Tow ball and 7-pin electrics.

Tool roll and starting handle. Brand new Exmoor Trim fully removable Khaki canvas hood hood frame, and Elephant Hide seats.

All new or refurbished parts, including axles, brakes, electrics, engine, transmission etc. Sensible, reversible upgrades include 3.54 high ratio differentials and auxiliary 12v power socket. The Series IIA is considered by many the hardiest Series model constructed, having the same main design as the original Series 1, but improved upon in many areas.

It is the type of classic Land Rover that features strongly in the general publics perception of the Land Rover, and the same basic shape was carried right through to the most recent Defender, which only recently ceased production after its long 67 year life. This particular model is a fully restored example of the archetypal Deep Bronze Green Regular short wheel base [88] with canvas hood and Limestone wheels.

The original two and a quater Diesel engine starts readily from cold after a few seconds on the glow plugs, settling into a steady tick over, and is ready and willing on the road, cruising at 50-55mph happily thanks to its larger, LWB 7.50 tyres [optional from new], highly desirable Fairey overdrive and tall ratio differentials. All gears select perfectly and the low range and four wheel drive options all work as they should, the hand throttle mounted on the bulkhead is optional, and the brakes pull the vehicle up to a stop nice and straight.

On road or off it, the vehicle is very capable and versatile. This example has been completely stripped down and restored to what can be described as better than new condition, being on a brand new galvanised frame from Richards Chassis in Mexborough.

This means that structural corrosion is a thing of the past if well looked after and will give decades of good service - far more than an original item. The bulkhead is believed to be original, but has been restored to an excellent standard. The body work is excellent , with lovely Deep Bronze Green paint and all the lights, door seals etc. The work was carried out in 2015 by well-known Series 2 restorer, Jim Gardner of Leaf Sprung Landies, and toured around the country with him to various vintage shows and events , hence there is the odd small chip and scratch from use on our road system! A brand new full length hood stick set and correct Khaki tilt from Exmoor Trim, adding to the versatility and all round appeal of the vehicle.

The interior is excellent , with brand new correct specification Elephant Hide seats up front , along with floor mats front and rear. There is a 12v socket mounted to the side of the dash binnacle for charging satnavs and phones that is wired straight to the battery since this vehicle is positive earth [hence the visible wires in the engine bay]. Under the passenger seat there is a storage compartment, which contains a correct specification tool roll complete with tools, along with a starting handle mounted behind the front seats. The bottle jack is also hidden away in the under-seat compartment along with a heavy duty wheel brace, making things easier if ever required at the road side.

The odometer reads 7,091 however we are unable to verify whether this is correct. This stunning - looking Land Rover would make a fantastic investment , that can also be used , enjoyed and cherished, ideal for those hood-off trips down the pub on a summers evening, right up to fetching your supply of logs in the winter! It really has to be seen to be fully appreciated. Someone once said that if you asked a child to draw an old Land Rover, this is what they would draw!
