This car is obviously always been a great car and has an interesting history and only 7 former keepers since new! I have renovated this car over the two years. My restoration principle is to restore the vehicle to original as much as possible using new parts built in the original way and EVERYTHING works as it should. It is an MOD first put into service with the Kuwait Air Force on 31/12/1977 and still carries a plate attesting to that fact. It comes with ALL the MOT certificates through to its last one dated 19/02/2014 and these clearly prove THE MILEAGE of 65207 IS GENUINE.

I acquired the car on 02/10/2014 decided to restore it completely and keep it as my personal car, intending to re-galvanised chassis. I have acquired the following new parts for the car. Driver side Door, Driver side door window top, Passenger side Door, Passenger door window top, Rear Safari Door, and a replacement bonnet. I also acquired a used Roof rack. These have been sprayed in matching 2 pack paint to match the paintwork on the car.

These parts are NOT ATTACHED to the car. However if you really don't want to re-chassis the car then it could be welded. It has had welding in the past.

It now has corrosion that would cause it to fail an MOT. The corrosion is all in the straight chassis members so it is mostly easy straight welding. I will also send you a PDF showing other cars I have restored recently. What has been done to this vehicle. I when I first obtained the car I.

Tested and tuned including installing a Distributor overhaul kit, new High Tension Leads and Spark Plugs. Went through and undertook minor repairs to electrics and lights. Install a new sender units for water temperature. Had a local independent engineering shop rebuild the brakes and replace all brake fluid pipes so it is now excellent. The car has three near new front seats and in the rear has two, two person seat backs fitted to the sides.

The rear seat base can be bought new very cheaply. 7 sets of new seat belts, 3 in front and four in the rear. The car has been fitted for desert conditions. This includes: being fitted throughout with a very expensive acoustic and temperature control (hot and cold) insulation kit covering almost every interior surface - including the entire roof!

Engine breathing filter kit to exclude sand from entering the engine. Heavy duty radiator fitted previously. I had paint made to match the existing external colour so that when I repainted it, the exterior and the engine bay match. The car comes with a can of matching paint for future touch ups.

Obtained and painted new doors, windows rear safari door and bonnet. The rear seats can be bought new very cheaply. New rear two person seat.

Seats on both sides and new rubber floor mats. I do not use body filler! I prefer to paint over small imperfections leaving them visible.

Land Rovers are subject to a lot of vibration and this can be really bad for filler which ends up cracking and even flaking and ends up looking much worse that the small dents you are trying to cover up. It even falls right out! If there is a bad dent, I replace the panel. I think a 36 year old Land Rover should have small flaws.

If it is too perfect it looks wrong. I think my Landy's are good looking honest cars that are properly overhauled.

The engine is the excellent MOD 4 cylinder petrol of 2286cc. This is the original engine. The odometer says only 65207.

However when you are looking at an 35 year old vehicle, the mileage is not so important, it is the condition that counts. The dash board top is completely intact.

This is only the second one I have ever seen that is not damaged. They are normal road tyres that give a smoother ride than mud pluggers. They are 7.50 R16 tube type Radials. All 5 rims are black and are without corrosion. All 5 tyres are road tyres in normal reasonable condition for age. Most landies only do a low mileage, perhaps 1000 - 1500 miles per year. On that basis these tyres will last many, many years yet.

The braking system has been overhauled throughout including pipe replacement. It stops straight even under very hard braking and does not pull to either side.

The steering is tight and straight for a land rover. The car stops in a dead straight line when you brake, even when you brake really hard.

It has the normal original large diameter steering wheel. The gearbox is good and the selector springs have all been replaced. The car has free wheeling front hubs which make for lighter steering and better MPG. The rear suspension was all replaced with new springs, bushes and pins.

I haven't put it through an MOT as it needs welding work. However it is such a great car and so strong in every respect that I would urge you to do what I intended, ie re-chassis it with a galvanised unit.

The resale value of the car would be so high compared to the cost involved you would realise a handsome profit. Any work with a safety consideration such a brakes and steering etc was undertaken by a qualified independent businesses who have much more specialist equipment than it pays me to have. All old landy's seem to have rust even if you can't see it!

- I have CONVERT it. Pressure spray the entire chassis and running gear with a solution of Phosphoric Acid.

Phosphoric Acid converts rust (up to 10mm deep). A Land rover chassis is 2.5mm thick so we know it has soaked through any surface rust that may have existed. The rust turns iron phosphate that becomes a protective layer that cannot rust again. The converted protective layer has then been over sprayed with WAXOIL which will not reed to be renewed for 10 years.

We used to do this to vehicles and trailers used on the salt lakes in northern Australia (see the photos below to get an idea of what this treatment protects against) and Google Dampier Salt to see what a salt field looks like. Prior to our phosphoric acid treatment new vehicles and trailers were scrapped after 3 years before we started treating them with phosphoric acid.

After the treatment stared the vehicles were found to last many, many, years. If rust is worse than surface rust, the part is replaced, either with a brand new part or the is rust cut out and new steel welded into place. I don't normally plate over rusty areas as this still leaves the rust behind the plating. I normally weld in thicker steel than I take out so it is stronger than new.

This car has rust in the straight chassis rails, but no rust in the bulkhead, cross members or outriggers. Of these is going up fast. In my experience they have zoomed upwards in the past 12-18 months. I think as the economy improves they will continue to strongly increase in value. To scream as you drive and go wrong. The more common overdrives can be awkward to use, troublesome to maintain and really don't make much of a practical difference for people using these Landy's in the way most of us use them, ie as low mileage second cars. Of course, you won't out of them grinning every time you have driven it. Rust in chassis rails but not in cross members of outriggers. This is a great car that is runs brilliantly and has done so throughout its life, hence so few keepers in 35 years! This car starts on the button, and runs strongly with no overheating, hesitancy or misfiring. Steering is excellent (by Series standards), good ride and none of the common transmission backlash etc. There really is nothing to criticise.

This example is right up there with the best Series that I have ever driven, and I have driven a lots of them. I have driven the car quite a lot and everything mechanical works perfectly. The steering is tight and it drives straight, stops quickly and straight, gearbox is firm, gear change is. Fluid and precise with no grating. The engine runs and idles exactly as it should.

Takes petrol without fumes or dripping so no leaks or split hoses there. It is a good strong runner and if it weren't for my health I would keep it. Come and see the car, you won't be disappointed.

You can call me on. They are all painted on both sides. New colour matched Driver side Door. New colour matched Driver side door window top.

New colour matched Passenger side Door. New colour matched Passenger door window top. New colour matched Rear Safari Door.

Sample photos are in the vehicle specification sheet. I have not added anything for painting.

I answer to some questions I add the following. The roof rack in the photos is not included in the listing price. Some people want a roof rack and some don't. Personally on a SWB I would always have a roof rack because you can't carry items beyond about 2 metres inside the shorter cab & tub space as compared to a LWB. The doors, windows and bonnet listed are an additional and completely new set I have painted ready to install in place of the doors and windows now attached to the car and shown on the photos.

It would be silly to put the new doors on the car until the chassis has been either welded or replaced with a galvanised one as they are likely to be scratched during the work. So, if you don't want the new second set, you still get the doors etc shown in the photos. That will keep the rain out until the work is completed and new ones are installed. You don't HAVE to install the new doors etc but really you would be silly not as the existing ones are really showing their age.

The car has not been put through an MOT since I bought it because I know it won't pass until the welding has been done or the chassis has been replaced. The ONLY MOT failure would be the need to sort out the chassis. The rest has all been sorted including a braking system overhaul.

Tyres and wheel are good. All electrics wipers washers etc work as required. Due to my Cystic Fibrosis and the long term damage to my lungs I can't work outside in the cold now, and my doctor has now told me to stop welding and spraying cars due to the problem with fumes in my lungs. The continual, persistent racking coughing has become very disabling after 10 months.
