1965 Land Rover SWB Series 2A Freshly restored

  
"Harry" is my exceptional and very usable 1965 Series 2a Land Rover, which I have spent the past six months restoring. It turns heads wherever it goes and brings a smile to people's faces. With the roof off during the summer, it's one of the coolest things on the road! It has been a well looked after working machine and its history has been preserved where it reflects its working life. Mileage is 90,719 and is consistent with the past ten years' MOT history so I would say it is accurate. The vehicle is solid, reliable and drives well for a 53 year old classic. It is still on the original chassis which has been patched in the past and has had a replacement rear bulkhead as you would expect but looks very good now. The bulkhead has been replaced and is in very good order. The engine is the standard Land Rover 2.25 petrol. I've replaced the head gasket and the cylinder head, giving everything a clean and decoke at the same time. The engine now starts on the button and ticks over like a swiss watch and pulls very strongly. The front suspension bushes have been upgraded to polybush ones and it drives very nicely. Electrics throughout have been brought back to full working order, including towing socket and gauges. A voltmeter and USB ports have been added, but can be removed easily if the new owner prefers not to have them. A full service has been carried out, including plugs, filters, gaskets etc.

All five tyres are near new with loads of tread left. Brakes have been fully overhauled and perform well, including the hand brake. New locks throughout with all keys. An air horn has been fitted previously and works.

New shock absorbers have been fitted. Rear cushion seats are fitted, making it a true 7-seater. Door tops have been serviced and rustproofed. It has been freshly repainted in the original Marine Blue with Limestone wheels and roof. Fitted is a Fairey Overdrive in good working condition and Fairey freewheel hubs which have been serviced.

Harry has been converted to run on unleaded fuel. Passenger seatbelt fitted and drivers side supplied. It is correctly registered as a Historic Vehicle. V5C is in my name and present.

From this year it is also MOT free and can be legally used on the road without the annual test. (This is why this vehicle currently shows as not MOT'd, but is perfectly legal to drive on the road). This makes it a very cheap Special Occasion car.

I've spent over 150 hours restoring this Land Rover to a very good standard and have become very fond of it. I'm not a professional, just a caring amateur who has tried to "Do right" by the vehicle working evenings and weekends, rather than simply tart it up and sell it on. I intended to keep it, but redundancy forces sale.
