Bought as a project vehicle in June 2020, but never stated due to to work comitments. The previous owner had fitted new battery, coil, electronic ignition, fuel pump and water valve recently prior to sale. A reconditioned series 3 gearbox was fitted in 2008 - suplied by R Whitehouse & Son, the best in the business.
Believed to be ex-military and first registered in 1980. This may explain the heavy duty upgrades. The rear diff has been upgraded to a Salisbury diff.
This is a desirable enhancement as it is said to be much stronger than the Rover diff. The brakes have been upgraded to 11 (LWB drums) and are servo-assisted. The engine is smooth - seems to be in good condition with no smoke or rattles. The chassis is in really good condition and has not bee welded. It was replaced in 2001 and crucially, the chassis legs appear to have been waxoyled from new (you can feel the coating in the access holes).
The bulkhead needs attention primarily above the vent flaps as there is corrosion there. There is a pinhole under the clutch pedal, but otherwise driver and passenger footwells appear sound. The painwork is essentially a blank canvas. My idea was to lighly sand off the black paint with wet and dry to leave blue paint and an awesome patina. Otherwise, of course, it can be sanded back and painted, but a bit of shame to lose all those years of patina. The door tops will need replacing; the bottoms may perhaps be repaired, The salisbury diff pinion is leaking, so needs a new seal.
The clutch pedal is a bit stiff but it all works. In general it needs a bit of love and attention, but there is a lot of good here, and a great project. Please ask for anything you need.
