1979 Land Rover Series 3 Station Wagon With Galvanised Chassis And Overdrive

  

It is finished in sea marine blue. It is showing 20,000 miles in the odometer which I suspect is actually 120,000 looking through the MOT's. The previous keeper owned this for 18 years and in 2010 it was put on a galvanised chassis. It has an MOT until November 2017. The exterior is generally very presentable and it looks good.

The previous keeper has tidied it up with a new coat of paint. Its not a show class paint job but for an old series its fine. The sides are nice and straight with no major marks and the bulkhead is solid. There are a few marks here and there as to be expected but nothing major at all.

The tyres are all in good order and have good tread. There is also a very good tow bar fitted. The chassis is obviously as solid as they come with it being galvanised. The door frames are all in good order also with just a few small areas of corrosion but still very solid. The interior is also in decent condition.

In the front a 3 luxury style seats which are in decent shape apart from some wear to the passenger side bolster. There is also an odd light mark here and there. To the rear there are 2 x bench seats which seat an additional 4 people.

The dashboard and door cards are all in good shape. Please remember that it is a 37 year old Land Rover so it is showing some marks associated with age and use. The engine starts well from warm or cold and runs very smoothly indeed. The 4 speed gearbox all works well and there are no nasty noises when changing gear.

The Fairey Overdrive all works well and is nice and smooth. This is a god send on the motorway as you can sit at 55-60 rather than 45-50. The brakes and steering all function well. All the gauges work and there is no overheating etc.

This is a series landy so dont expect a super smooth drive but they do have some character. The landy comes with a spare radiator panel which needs a little tidying on the bottom. It also comes with a military bonnet and a brand new set of door mirrors.
