Available for sale to fund other projects, Jim has recently undergone a light restoration in preparation for an MOT and sale. As you can see from the photos, this Land Rover benefits from having original paint on many panels, owing to a fantastic and genuine patina. Newly painted items include the nearside front wing and the newly fitted door tops.
Unfortunately a previous owner has painted a area on the rear wing Ive left this as is, as I feel it adds to the overall characterful look of the Series. Overall this is an incredibly straight Series 3 that will surely appreciate over the coming years.
The bulkhead is in very good condition as seen and the chassis has been maintained over the years where necessary up to MOT standard. Jim recently passed his MOT with only one advisory for an oil leak; obviously like many Land Rovers of this vintage he does leave his mark! The 2.25 Petrol engine runs sweetly and starts on the button, although perhaps running slightly rich in my opinion at the minute (not such an issue this time of year mind).
A previous owner has fitted an electric fuel pump under the drivers seat (as he planned to run two tanks) I have not changed this set up and Ive had no issues with the electrical pump. Jim does drive very well for the year, and the gearbox pulls through all the gears as expected. One of very few that Ive driven in recent years with the reverse position spring still intact! The steering has a little more play than I would like, although this is to be expected with a Land Rover of this age.
Seat belts are fitted in the rear with the relevant bracing beneath the tub, this allows for the fitting of bench seating, should the new owner require it. I have some seat pads I will throw in if you wish.
Clearly the Land Rover has had a reasonable amount of welding over the years, this appears to have been a body off job to MOT standard. Ive included an under-body photo taken when up on the lift, I can provide a few more photos like this if needed. (Access to the lift is not available when viewing unfortunately). Ive carried out a reasonable amount of work on Jim myself recently, some electrical work was completed on the lighting circuit, as well as a full brake overall and service of the cooling system. Ive fitted new door tops to both doors, as well as the previous owner fitting parabolic springs on the rear. I can only think of a few issues to mention here, Jim is fitted with an aftermarket air filter (not to everyones tastes I probably have a spare OEM oil bath filter somewhere), he is currently running cross-ply tyres which are quite loud when at road speed, also I do find the rear Parabolic leaf springs a touch too soft although that is perhaps just my opinion.
