Land Rover 86 Series 1 one

  
1956 Land Rover 86 Series 1. I bought the vehicle about 4 or 5 years ago with a view to putting a Tdi in it and doing some other bits and bobs to make it more useable everyday but once I got it back to the workshop in the summer it soon became clear that this vehicle is far too original to put later parts on and modify. Many Series Ones are little more than a Series 2/3 vehicle with a series one body put on top. This one still has its original engine, gearbox, axles etc....

Even the original steering set up with centre hornpush and dipswitch is in place and unbroken. Original date stamped radiator also present. The V5 is in my name and the number plate is the original (and hence transferrable). As can be seen from the pictures, the vehicle needs finishing.

There are currently no brakes but the metal lines are in place and I have two new flexible pipes to go on the front. Reservoir is also amongst the spares. Vehicle also needs wiring up properly. However Ive put a temporary ignition switch and it does run sweetly. I bought the vehicle in bits and the guy I bought it off told me that the previous owner took it apart and never got round to putting it back together again.

I would say its been off the road 30 years or so. It looks like the bulkhead is new as there is no rust on it, the chassis has had some welding on it and most of it is very sound but would need the gearbox crossmember either being replaced or repaired as its rusty. It appears that the front swivels have been restored as they are perfect.

Ive put a new exhaust on with new fittings. I spent several hundred pounds on the engine. Its had a new head gasket, and decoke kit, along with new parts in the distributor, new plugs and several other parts. Needs seats, but apart from that I would say the rest of the parts (or majority of parts are there) including the door tops which are in good condition. Brand new pressed steel plates. The value of these vehicles continues to increase, especially now as they are being bought as investments. Any questions do not hesitate to ask.
