The previous owner Mark Dixon (editor of octane magazine) used this vehicle often and even took it on a courageous expedition to Iceland. Despite the car having additions for its expedition it is in remarkably original condition. The bulkhead and chassis both have matching numbers, 26101251.
The engine number is 26107334 which is the same year, possibly the original engine from factory. Iceland Expidition At moment there is little information or pictures about the expedition but they are coming soon! From what I remember GAP may have been featured in octane magazine.
The trip has meant that the engines fan has been removed and in place an electric fan, this allows the engine to heat up faster in cold temperatures by using a thermostatic control. In addition the windscreen water bottle is inside the vehicle to prevent it from freezing. Electrics GAPs electrical system has been reinstated to excellent working order. Parts like new include the wiring loom, ignition coil, and voltage regulator and upon sale a new battery will be installed.
Chassis, axels and suspension Chassis is patch and rust free. Its in such a good condition one would think its been potentially replaced in the past 10-20 years. Chrome on the swivel housings are immaculate, the axles along with chassis have clearly been rebuilt.
Also the steering box has been rebuilt and performs as well as it can. Engine The gutsy engine is in a reliable state. New but old stock lodge spark plugs add a feature of originality. When the land rover was received the head was removed dechoked with the valves lapped. Looking at the cam you can see little wear. Its quite possible the engine was fully rebuilt before its expedition. Gearbox Gearbox runs perfectly selects every gear, this can sometimes be a problem with land rovers. The box also has an overdrive for improved driveability on road.
Aluminium Bulkhead Whats interesting about this car is the aluminum bulkhead. When people started discovering these vehicles it was seen as an anomaly to the regular bulkhead design.
Its said that during production of the series land rover the tooling used to press the steel bulkhead broke. With an abundance of ductile aluminum, the workshop decided to fabricate a small number out of this material until regular manufacturing could continue. The bulkhead on GAP is in brilliant condition and has no signs of corrosion. Brakes Brakes are working excellent recently cleaned, serviced and adjusted.
They still have plenty life left in them. Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa Su. Information about the vehicle above is provided by the Dealer for guidance.
