Land Rover Series 1 88 1958 SXF Civil Defence JLR Commemorative Vehicle

  

For sale as I'm moving to new automotive pastures is my beloved Agnes, a 1958 series 1 88 Land Rover. Retaining her original SXF registration number identifies that she has served as a Civil Defence operations vehicle. In my ownership, sympathetic recommissioning has been conducted including the following.

New leaf springs and sundries all round. New brakes (need bedding in).

Bulkhead top rail replaced (Radfords). Original Radiator refurbed and re-cored. Front to rear electrical harness overhaul. All this work had been conducted by Phillip Tuckey (and myself when time allowed) who is a renowned specialist with these vehicles. See YouTube video detailing some of the work completed. This is a really nice vehicle still retaining her ministry of defence commission plaque and serial paint markings on inner bonnet face. Engine is thought to be original alongside the axles, gearbox etc. She does have an alternator conversion and an electronic fuel pump. All wheels are correct date stamped and match aside from the spare which is close as. Purist note - the brake pedal system has been utilised from a series 3 Land Rover. Shaft and a few other parts still in place for an original style brake pedal.

Rear silencer is stainless however the baffles have completely gone and she pops bangs and farts (which personally I like) down the road. Historically modern Land Rover turn signals had been fitted. Holes in the rear tub have been partially disguised by a GB plate and lowering of the rear number plate.

Holes in front wings still there but can be patched up if wanted. Paint is far from perfect but could easily be rubbed back and re-done.

All the hard mechanical / welding etc activity has been done. Since all the welding the underside chassis internals have been pumped full of clear Waxoyl.

The next owner be warned as on a hot day it will dribble! All said and done and whilst not a concours example, she is a Landy that can be considered mostly unmolested oozing with provenance. If your looking for a vehicle to use as is, restore further or go concourse, then this is for you. As a longstanding and current employee of Jaguar Land Rover opportunity was given on the final day of production of Defender for any associate to being in their Defender or Series Land Rover. At point of application submission, Agnes was chosen based on her history to form part of a commemorative display in the Atrium in the headquarters of Jaguar Land Rover at Whitley.

To mark this occasion, permission was granted for a plaque to be commissioned and mounted on Agnes. I have a few mementos from this sad day that will accompany Agnes. Agnes is a sound investment and will only appreciate in value.

Whatever you put into her, you will always get back. No dreamers or timewasters you will be weeded out very quickly if you waste my time. I'm not interested in a P/X.
