Land Rover Series 2 (not 2a) Lovely with all original features

  
A really lovely, genuine Series 2 (1958- 61) from 1959 with all the original features that differentiate these from the later Series 2a; Bolt on air vent flaps with internal turning knob, 3 bolt tailgate hinges, Bellows type thermostat in different cylinder head casting etc. Its rare to find one of these in such original order. It has the original Solex carb and the wheels are all stamped 59 (Apart from the spare which is stamped 58 for some reason). Ive owned this Landy for eight years, gradually making improvements rather than restoring, as I firmly believe in not over restoring things and try to keep as much originality as possible, over the years this one has inevitably had a fair bit of work with a new rear half to the chassis along with new outriggers all round and replacement dumb irons at the front. A factory reconditioned gearbox was fitted many years ago but the engine is the original petrol 2.25 low compression unit you can easily start it with the starting handle! It keeps up with general traffic OK but is no hot rod! A brand new Autosparks original type wiring loom has been fitted along with many ancillaries like dynamo, fuel pump, coil, brake and clutch master cylinders and it also benefits from a new electronic distributor (the original mechanical unit does come with it). Mechanically its very good indeed, starting on the button with good brakes, clutch etc.

The body is all sounds with dents here and there from 60 odd years of use, paint work is the usual Land Rover good from 3 paces standard. The hood and sticks are very recent and consequently immaculate. Personally I prefer it as it is, and when it does get used its to go and fetch a few bags of sand or take items to the tip for example.
