Land Rover Series 2A 109 Carawagon Camper Conversion. 5 Previous owners from new.

Manufactured by RJ Searle Ltd of Sunbury on Thames, England. Vehicle registered in Guildford, 1966. Carawagons where an approved conversion by Land Rover Engineering department at the time. Rear Bench Seat, which folds to create a double bed. Elevating roof which plenty of headroom for anyone who is 6ft 2. Extra bunk beds, in this case, one extra bunk, making the car a 3 berth. Rear living tent, with poles that slide out from the hardtop. The canvas for this frame/tent is present and in good condition. Poles are present, but one of them will require a minor repair. Storage Units and sliding doors. 2x Fold out Tables, small and large. Water pump & tap, connected to a large water tank behind the rear axle. The original 1960s fridge is missing. Although this is a very large space to fit a modern equivalent. 2x Calor Gas Bottle Holders/Frames behind the rear wheels. 2x Jerry Can Holders fitted to the front bumper. Sink with pull out bowl.

Silent Gliss curtain tracks all around the inside. The Engine & Engine Bay.

The Carawagon is still fitted with its original 7:1 Compression Ratio 2.25 Petrol Engine. Engine can be seen running. Engine is a good runner, with no obvious leaks or bad noises.

The 4 core radiator fitted also would appear to be the original unit, as it has the date stamp of March 1966 on it. I have recently fitted a new fuel pump to the vehicle as the previous one had failed. The original will be included if required. I have also fitted (a stop gap) a different carburettor just so that I can get it to run. I have the original single choke weber that was fitted, and the spare Zenith Carburettor that belongs to the vehicle.

I will need to remove my carburettor & adaptor kit before sale. On the original chassis with the full chassis number present.

The chassis is in excellent condition for its age, and in my opinion does not need replacing. 1 small patch would be required at the front on the passenger side behind the front cross member.

Chassis main rails and all outriggers are all solid and in excellent condition. The worst part of the chassis is the rear cross member, in particular the central box section of the rear cross member. The outrigger portions are actually OK.

The main chassis right up the to the rear cross member looks very solid. Bulkhead is in very good condition for its age. The footwells looks to have been replaced in recent years. There is some light surface rust along the top channel of the dash, and some flaking rust in front of the passenger, just above the hole for the LHD steering column. Bulkhead certainly in good order, and in my opinion would benefit from being shot blast and repainted.

Both Lucas FW2 Wiper Motors work. The original Smiths Heater works. Most of the electricals actually seem to work, including the lights. Axles look in good order with no obvious faults. Suspension doesnt look to have been replaced in a long time, and although coping OK, would in my opinion benefit from replacement heavy duty leaf springs.

Having not driving it on the open road I cant vouch for the transmission at speed. Although having moved it around the garden a few times, I can confirm it selects all gears fine, in both high and low with no horrid noises. To all intensive purposes I dont believe the gearbox to have any issues. Fairey Overdrive not tested on the open road, but selects fine and vehicles moves in IN and OUT. Tyres are perished and will need replacing.

On first appearance it would be fair to say that the roof has seen better days. And certainly, would appear to have never been refurbished since new. The large rectangular sections of Marine Ply on the outside have begun to delaminate and will need replacing. The semi-circular sections of the roof (when up) at each end are in very good condition and possibly could do with a light sand and varnish. The Duralumin roof panels are also in excellent condition, but inside and out, with no evidence of leaking at the joints.

Unfortunately, most of the rubber seals around the piano hinges have perished and will need replacing. Thankfully the piano hinges themselves are excellent condition and could easily be used again. The original wooden roof-rack system at the front is badly rotten and will need replacing. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer. I also have many photos should you require anymore please get in touch.
