LPG and PETROL 2.25 engine. A very original and genuine example of a series 2A 109.
I have here for sale this opportunity to acquire what is considered the connoisseurs choice of the classic series range of the Land Rover. This is a late series 2A version with a 2.25 petrol engine with LPG system fitted. It has many features that make it a very useable vehicle without being a pain in the arse to maintain. This vehicle was owned by an old friend of mine for many years.
He had poured his heart and soul into it for 20 years or so. It has been laid up for a few years and I have been pestering him to do something with it for a while. I have been concerned that it desperately needed attention before it turned into a major restoration. Recently I have aquired it and set to work to recommission it for use and or further restoration.
In summary this Land Rover is the basis for quite a good original vehicle. It has a very good bulkhead and a good original chassis with the original chassis number stamped into the chassis leg. The chassis is sound, there are a number of repairs and replacement crossmember and outriggers some plating but not very much. Although the chassis has had some work it is of a good standard and it has done well to survive in our climate for 45 years. Here is a list of things I have sorted out. NEW, servo, master cylinder, front and rear flexi hoses, wheel cylinders front and rear, brake shoes front and rear. Also note existing copper brake lines throughout. NEW master cylinder, slave cylinder, flexi hose and tubing. Rear hub seals and seal tracks.Rear half shafts removed and inspected. Oils drained front and rear and refilled with EP90.
Swivel housings appear to be full of one shot grease. Both axles carefully inspected for operation no nasty noises and drained oil inspected. Oils drained and refilled with EP90. Note that it is original 2A gearbox with crash mesh on first and second gear. This engine has had a fair amount of work done to it in the past.
I have been informed that the cylinder head has had extensive work carried out. Valve seats and gas flowed ports. I have also been informed that it has a special camshaft fitted. All of this has been based around a military recon unit. Engine starts and runs quite well. It runs well on petrol and slightly better on LPG. The previous owner ran this vehicle on gas only. It starts and runs on gas very well.
I decided to get the engine running on petrol as well. I have fitted the correct fuel lift pump with sediment bowl and a supplementary in line filter. I have fitted an overhaul kit to the Zenith carb.
I still think it needs a little fettling to get it running on petrol better. Timing is set to 3 deg BTDC. Oil drained and new oil and filter fitted.
New driver and passenger door top and bottom. The vehicle has been recently painted in Pastel green and limestone.
Very good bulkhead and front panel. The Land Rover is up for sale as you see in the pictures. Please NOTE there is a glass missing from the hard top.
I have ordered another and this will be fitted and included in the sale. I have the safari door glass and fittings. The Land Rover now has a new MOT. It expires on the 17th August 2017. I have fitted a new trailer socket and tested it.
I have fitted new stainless steel light bezels as the old ones were rusty. Still waiting for the glass for the hard top, hopefully this will be fitted next week.
