Land Rover series 3 Diesel 88

  

Land Rover series 3 Diesel. Owned by me since Feb 2016.

Mileage currently at 83820 but may go up due to a little use. Five former owners recorded and I know the last two.

Just passed it's MOT this week with one advisory for the headlight lenses starting to decay. I have receipts for many repairs and maintenance from previous and present owners. The rear cross member was replaced some years ago before I bought it and I have had the front spring hangers repaired professionally last year at our local and well known Land Rover specialists Bumfords and sons Manafon. The middle cross members were repaired this year together with the two front body mounts under the foot wells. The front chassis was repaired very sympathetically keeping the original chassis number stamping on it to retain as much patina and original provenance as possible.

There have been some welding repairs to the bulkhead and floor pans before my ownership and I have not tried to hide these and some are hand painted over or even still primered. The rear panels are also primed following some panel repair as you can see. The engine number matches the V5 by the way. The body chassis plate is missing but these are available as a replacement.

I recently found the build record paper sheet that was stuck in the back of the driver's seat as you can see from the picture and the chassis number is recorded on it and also matches! It drives really nice and all gears select normally including the four wheel drive high and low range. Brakes are reasonable for this model and era and benefits from having the optional servo and split line system. Remember these are drum brakes, if you've never driven a vehicle with them before then please do your research. I have used it for light logging and it has proved invaluable and very reliable. The engine starts very quickly and the engine is sweet for one of these Diesels. All oil levels have been maintained. There are some small oil leaks as is normal for one of these engines.

There are two parabolic springs on the front which were fitted before my ownership and the rear off side one has been replaced since my ownership. It has a stainless steel exhaust system with the new front pipe yet to be fitted but it will come with the car. The paintwork is obviously not original as you can see.

I have tried to be as honest as I can be with the description but please realise this is a 36 year old vehicle. I have recently bought a Defender and for this reason I have to sell the series three.
