Ive owned her for the past 12 years. For much of the time she was a great fun daily/station driver but has been hardly used for the past 2 years. I was planning a full restoration but recently my plans have changed unexpectedly and sadly she needs to go. The following is an honest appraisal of the condition and is to the best of my knowledge.

The chassis has recently been welded/plated where necessary and is in solid, usable condition. I have deliberately not painted the chassis so nothing is hidden but would benefit from paint/waxoil. Bulkhead is totally solid, as is the tub and both foot wells have been replaced in aluminium.

The rear tailgate has been replaced with a new non original series 3 item, the leaf springs are in good condition and both axles are reinforced items. She has a brand new battery. The 2.25 petrol engine turns over and runs fine but will need attention as it is down on power. Ive been advised this is due to a sticking valve but cannot confirm this. Gearbox and transfer box both work fine but does leak some oil so needs occasional top up. The brakes work fine but as it has been standing for a while, will need recommissioning. The exhaust will need replacing as the silencer has rotted and fallen off.

Bodywork was recently painted in correct olive drab green with silver trim and black bumpers. The hood sticks are in good condition and the galvanised cab top items are as new and the grey hood is Exmoor trim which is only about 18 months old so is in good condition with no rips, tears or rot and unscratched side and rear windows.

She has an adjustable rear step and towbar. Aside from the larger, aftermarket wheels (fitted with Superwinch freewheeling hubs plus matching spare wheel and unused tyre) and tyres, she is in very original trim and has not been messed with. These vehicles are becoming very rare and this one comes complete with most of the rare lightweight only parts which are increasing hard/expensive to source.

This includes the working Smiths heater, grab handle, military fire extinguisher and torch, original identification plates, military (and civilian) towing electrics and tow bar, infra red light, convoy lights, rear wheel arch storage locker, and wiper motor and steering column cowlings. I also have a box of other interior parts, including new gear knob that will come with the sale but that Ive not got around to fitting. I have 2 keys for the vehicle. Due to the originality, this would make an ideal base vehicle for a full ground up restoration but equally would be very usable virtually as is with a bit of TLC. Currently on a Q plate which was assigned when she was demobbed I also have the Heritage Certificate verifying the date of manufacture so she could easily be put back onto an age appropriate registration number.

I have some history from during my ownership, including the V5 which is in my name. Current mileage is 94,566 which I believe from the history to be correct. I do have some of the military history but not all. She served with the British army during the conflict in Northern Ireland during the late 70s and early 80s and still has a period dymo label stuck on the dashboard reminding personnel to check for explosive devices before starting the engine! Again, this is something I just didnt get around to!
