The chassis is generally in good order and will only need some repair work to the RH rear spring hanger area (6 area, to the lower chassis rail) and also the LH side rear fuel tank outrigger. The rest of the chassis is solid and the thick underseal has preserved the chassis well. In places the original factory black paint is clear to see. The chassis has had some repairs in the past, this chassis is almost 40 years old. The RHF dumb iron has been cleaned and the original chassis number is evident.
The Bulkhead needs repair work. Both foot wells ideally need to be cut out and replaced. The RH side is much better than the LH side. The lower section of the upper "Vent panel" will need work but the upper 3/4 section all appears in good shape.
The 2.25 PETROL engine runs and picks up well. It is painted light green which means it is a MOD rebuilt engine.
(951 engine prefix is correct for this model). The Lightweight is running a conventional 12V electrical system (Not a 24V military radio vehicle system).
The Bosch battery was recently replaced. The full syncromesh gearbox works fine but I do recall it can occasionally jump out of 2nd gear on overrun. The 4 wheel drive works as expected, it has been tested across a field this week. Brakes will need some work as the RH front and the LH rear brake are sticking. It would be advisable to replace all four brake wheel cylinders. Brake master cylinder and servo both in good working order. For the past 12 years this Land Rover has been barn stored when not in use so has not really deteriorated much since its last MOT expired. The canvas hood is in great shape for its age and has not perished like some you see. The Land Rover sits perfectly level. The four road springs are all in good order and have not splayed open or rusted solid. The road springs will last for many more years and just need a coat of oil to preserve them. The exterior of the Land Rover is hand painted sand.It is not pretty but sanded back and resprayed green will transform it back to how it left the factory. The interior area and engine bay are in the original green paint. All 5 tyres have tread but they do have perished side walls and will need replacement. The LAND ROVER is fitted with wider 5.5 rims which look great with the 7.50 R16 tyres.
These larger tyres look impressive and also improve the gearing. (A set of 5 wheel rims can be supplied as an option if you are going full factory spec restoration). Being an EX Military vehicle it was fitted with Land Rover leather swivel gaitor's which are still in place and have protected the axle swivel housings. The Land Rover also has twin fuel tanks complete with a change over tap which is a great addition for any long distance adventures. The LAND ROVER still has correct military headlight surrounds, correct wire Grille and both sets of Bumperettes. The Land Rover comes complete with some period accessories. LR OPTIONAL EXTRA FAIREY FREE WHEEL HUBS. After market wheel arch Spats (LHR has a crack). LAND ROVER RECOVERY HOOPS attached to front. I have made this description to be as transparent as possible. The new owner will have a very good starting point for building a great Land Rover, if you look what they fetch restored this is well worth doing.
