Land Rover Series 3 Military Lightweight Airportable 24 Volt Interesting History

  
Here we have a 1974 Series 3 Land Rover Lightweight 24 volt FFR. It has been dry stored for the last 4 years I have owned it, still having it Mot'd each year. It covered 4 miles last year, to the MOT station and back! It was dry stored previously at 40 Commando, where the previous owner worked. The vehicle has quite an interesting history, as it spent time with the Grenadier Guards, Coldstream Guards, Irish Guards, Kings Guards, as part of a long list of regiments in its 15 years in service. Including a stint in The Parachute Regiment, at the time of the Faulklands war, so it may well have even seen a bit of action! It was transferred to 3 Para on 05/04/82.

After Argentina invaded Port Stanley on 2nd April1982, 3 Para set sail to defend the islands on S. Is this a coincidence or did this Land Rover go too? There are holes in the bodywork where the baskets were fitted and and other authentic original features. The chassis is very solid and has been coated in waxy bitumen sealant, original from its time in service.

The bulkhead is also very solid. A professional rewire was completed two years ago, with a new clutch and slave cylinder. Other than this work, she hasn't been messed about with. The bodywork is generally straight, but not perfect.

It was hand painted NATO green by the previous owner. Free wheeling hubs, and both 2-WD and 4-WD work as they should. The canvas has been waterproofed withFabsil, but shows some wear. There is a hole in the tub which has been checker plated, but its not a big issue. Collection from TA21 0LY, near Wellington Somerset.
