Land Rover Series One 1957 Diesel 88 inch SWB Restoration Project

  

Thank you for looking at my Land Rover Series One Diesel. There is no engine with it. I bought the Land Rover 25 years ago as it was the same as one that I owned, to be used for spares. It is an 88 inch SWB right hand drive originally fitted with the rover 2.0 litre Diesel which was launched in 1957.

Fitted to the last of the series Ones. The fuel tank cover still has the factory Diesel badge on it and the Diesel starter switch and heater plug coil is still present. Most had the hand throttle on the dash which is also here. As storage was an issue I stripped it down and scrapped the completely rusted bulkhead and the rear of the chassis. There was no engine when I bought it or wheels.

Gear/transfer box and other parts (as seen in photos) were dry stored in case they were needed. Brackets hinges and fixings were cut off bulkhead so they could be re attached to a home built one if wanted.

There is no V5 or number plates with it but chassis number should be on front dumb iron, and an owners club search should identify it and lead to a registration number identification, to see if it is still available at DVLA. The former owner was going to build an off road trials vehicle (1992) but changed his mind, so had no need for its log book. This would be a good start for a full rebuild or as a donor for rebuilding others.
