Original Ex Royal Navy Series 3 Land Rover 1978 soft-top

  
Follow her and see her on Instagram the Navy in 1978. This Land Rover is an original Royal Navy commissioned vehicle. Please note that she was built in 1978 and UK registered in July 1998 when she left the MOD/Navy. She was built in 1978 and is a series 3 88. She was stationed at the Royal Navy ordnance camp at Thetford (West Lofts camp). Her paperwork is available (see photo). She left the Navy in 1997 and from there we understand went to a private owner in Dorset. In 2016 we found her and started bringing her back to her original condition. Because of her unique nature, we were recommended not to take her back to a new engine or replace the original 1978 chassis. All original parts, where removed have been retained. Within this summary we have sought to detail the works, the background and some photographs of her from her double life in Buckinghamshire and Devon. She has always been stored under cover since we have had her, serviced regularly and is used every weekend on short to medium runs. Scope the scope was to not touch any of the original elements of the vehicle, whilst making sure she was safe and roadworthy. The works included the following. Chassis full inspection and no issues.

Chassis was sealed, we believe by the Royal Navy (Ministry of Defence) and the vehicle has been well maintained and never to see what taken on exercise. Suspension - new pattern shock absorbers and leaf springs all round. Structural replacements one of the footwells has been replaced. Brakes the whole braking system has been replaced with drums and shoes been refurbished/replaced. Engine the engine head has been reworked and new valves and valve seats to except modern unleaded fuel.

Engine has the original turquoise paint colour. Gearbox seals the seals were slightly perished so have been replaced.

Engine new valve seats/new valves. Full braking system overhaul (including pipes). Drivers side inner wheel arch.

New differential knows oil seal. New gearbox output shaft seals. Restoration works - phase II - 2017.

Scope - scope was to undertake the next stage of restoration works. Seatbelts - replacement of original Royal Navy adapted seat belts.

New lap belts for centre seat. Four new lap belts installed in the rear bay as well as two new folding bench-seats.

Wheel spacers 1 inch removable wheel spacers inserted to bring the wheels out by 1 inch to improve stability. New front seats (originals retained as spares). Restoration works phase III - 2018.

Respray after research into correct paint used for this age of Royal Navy vehicle, it was clear that she was painted incorrectly following leaving the military. The correct shade of paint was researched. Wheels new replacement wheels have been used (secondhand series 3). Full strip down to repaint original livery. Brake drums cleaned and serviced new lines brakes serviced.
