REFURBISHED Land Rover Series III by John Brown 4x4 Ltd. (12-04-1978) 2286 cc 5MB Diesel (Turner Engineering head).

MOT until 7 August 2018. As new 750x16 Deestone tyres, Range Rover Diffs and Fairey Overdrive for improved fuel economy and Land-Rover-quiet cruising. Bar with electrics; spare number plate. Halogen headlights for improved night visibility, 12V socket for your SatNav, Kenlowe fan with dedicated switch, circuit breaker switch for security. It just had a more than routine service by a local Land Rover garage (routine service plus check glow plugs, replace all trans and diff oils, replace engine oil and filter, replace rear diff gasket, replace master cylinder and bleed system, replace brake fluid cylinder rubber pipe, replace battery, replace N/s rear drive member).

Here for sale we have a smart soft top Series 3. On the inside there are 3 front seats with inertia belts, and the rear is unfitted, although mats are fitted throughout.

Externally, the professional paint finish is quite pleasing, and is set off well with the larger 750x16 Deestone military tyres - which look great and won't have you stuck anywhere! The Exmoor Trim canvas is recent.

The bonnet mounted spare adds to the period charm. This diesel starts really easily "on the button" and pulls very well, highlighting a good "fit" engine - coupled to the uprated differentials and larger wheels, the resulting increase in gearing ratios makes it a delight to cruise in.

In summary, if you are looking for a smart Series 3 soft top then this is worth considering. John Brown 4x4 Ltd: With regards to the engine and its capability I note the following: The vehicle started this morning very readily, and without hesitation or smoke.

I took the vehicle for a test drive down the motorway just before writing this so I can give you first hand accurate feedback. The vehicle drives very nicely indeed, with particularly nice suspension - it was relatively smooth and compliant, and I would not recommend tampering with the current setup or upgrading to parabolic springs as what is fitted now works very nicely. The engine pulls strongly at speed, without any smoke or drama. With regards to top speed and cruising speed, with the current set-up, it cruises quietly at 50mph - it will run at 60mph but from my point of view, the revs are just a little high for the speed. With the engine being fit, there was more acceleration to be had - so I therefore suggest that an Overdrive would solve the issue to the best solution as there was reserve power for an additional gear. Once that is done (a Fairey Overdrive was fitted by John Brown 4x4 Ltd), I would be happy to put my name against it driving longer distances at a constant 60mph. After the run up to speed and temperature, there was not a drop of oil or fuel from anywhere and no issues whatsoever arose when the bonnet was lifted after the run. A switched Kenlowe fan is fitted which works activated by a switch on the dash.

Incidentally we seem to recall we fitted a reconditioned gearbox to this vehicle, and it is a delight to use.
