Series 2A Land Rover 1971

  
Reluctantly for sale due to current ill health our Series 2A Land Rover which we bought locally in 2009. It has only covered 5000 miles in that time and in the last couple of years probably only 100 miles. Engine is 2.5 turbo diesel from the early Defender or 90 (the 19J engine) which is running well and was installed by previous owner. I believe it is the "stronger" engine from the serial number as I think there were issues with the turbo on the early versions of this engine leading to self-destruction in some cases. Salisbury heavy duty rear axle.

Larger brake shoes in front drums with servo. Parabolic springs all round fitted in our ownership. Chassis has been patched - have had the gearbox cross member, and dumb irons done and a few other patches here and there. Rear cross member fitted around 7 years ago. P free wheeling hubs (now quite rare).

Michelin 7.5 x16 Latitude cross tyres all round(except spare) with plenty of life left in them. Dixon Bate type tow hitch fitted.

Panels all round are good and straight. Gearbox (synchro on all gears), 4WD and Hi-Lo range working as it should but some clutch judder in 1st and reverse on take up. Spare gearbox - believed good also included. MOT expires 03 November 2017. There were the following advisories.

1 Front nearside brake grabbing - fitted new cylinders (from the 6 cylinder version). The not so good bits due mainly to it standing and not used much, but these are all standard Series issues :. The electrics can be a little temperamental but all lights are currently working. The heater fan does not work just now not that it would make a huge difference anyway.

There will be further patching required to chassis, passenger footwell and maybe bulkhead. I would have liked to do this one properly with a galvanised chassis had I been able to keep it. Paintwork is very faded as was previously hand painted and needs re-doing. Rear fold down seats have seen better days but are functional and driver's seat base could do with replacing.
