I have for sale a complete series one Siamese bore 2 litre Land rover engine. It is missing the carburettor, distributor, front pulley and dynamo. It is fitted with manifolds, bell housing, flywheel, clutch, starter motor, water pump, fan and thermostat housing. Externally the engine looks very tidy and not all pitted with rust.

The block will need re-boring as the engine has been left outside for sometime and the cylinders have had water in them. There doesn't appear to be any frost damage.

The good news is that the pistons are standard size so I don't think the engine has ever been reconditioned. The cylinders walls look sound and I would think that if they were taken out to at least plus 0.020 you would be back into good metal.

This engine and head looks the same as the 1600 cc series one F head inlet over exhaust engine and is essentially the same block bored out. The internal casting of the block is different to the 1600 only in so far as number one and two cylinders and number three and four cylinders have no opening between them for water/coolant to travel through as the cylinders are so close together. The stroke is the same as is the crankshaft and, I presume, the con rods as the 1600. I haven't checked but it is quite likely that the crankshaft is still standard or may have been ground a small amount. The extra capacity only added about 2 BHP but increased the torque a reasonable amount to give more power at low revs.

I would say that these engines are pretty well as rare as the 1600's if not more so. They were only fitted to Land Rovers from 1952 to 1954. The engine number is 47190829 which makes it a 1954 engine and, going by the look of it, it is an ex MOD engine.

The engine can be bought as it is. If I keep it long enough I will strip it down enough to check it through.

If you would like more information please call me. Thanks for looking, Graham Parsons, EGP engines. I also have a set of low mileage pistons that are 0.030 oversize, I think these could be used in this engine. New pistons that I have seen are pretty expensive. I have the gearbox or it as well.
